"Gonna be a lonely week"
That was my last status update on facebook. Truth be told it probably won't be any lonelier than normal. I generally just work all the time anyway, but the fact that all my friends are in OCMD making memories that I wish I would also be able to remember in the future still kind of sucks. So in an effort to stay connected, and also because Shauna and I thought the same thing on the same night, I'm going to let you know what I'm doing this week while you guys will probably, and hopefully will forget what you're doing this week. So here we go:
Dubb's Monday - I had originally set my alarm for 9:42 am so I could wake up and go mow my parents lawn... my alarm went off, I hit snooze once, but when the alarm went off again I just turned it off and didn't wake up till 11:30 am. I woke up, didn't eat breakfast, and quickly drove to Claridge St. in order to keep a promise I gave my mom to get it done by the end of the weekend.
Next I came home, fudged around for a little, then got ready for work... when I went to shave I couldn't help but think how I'm long overdue for a new razor. Don't really care though...
Work was pretty boring...although I few hotties did come in tonight.
After work I called up my boy Mike to see what he was doing. He wasn't doing anything, so we decided to ride bikes. We rode for about an hour all the way down to Upenn, through drexel, then back home viz China town. I thought it was kinda weird how many people were out considering it was about 1 am on a Sunday night in the city, but then again it was probably pretty weird that I was riding a bike through the city at the same time. I don't judge.
Finally I stopped at Bonks for two beers...dollar drafts on Sundays...as per usual. Second beer took me to last call, so I bounced home. Figured it was time for bed, but I still couldn't sleep. So I guess what actually ended the night was a beer and a cigar on the porch.
Just finished watching the newest episode of "Hung" and wrote the majority of this while sitting on the toilet. I'll update you again tomorrow.
Have fun guys.

25 Things
25 Things about me. F that. I'm not big on these self exploration things. Or maybe it's just that I'm not good at them. I like to think I know my self too well to take seriously. Not one thing I would write in there would be true. For instance, number one without a doubt would be:
1) I'm a pirate
100% false, in no way shape or form am I pirate. I've never pillaged anything in my life.
2) I'm a hybrid...vampire/werewolf
95% false, I do not have fangs and I do not howl at the moon. However I am being cast as one in a movie.
3) I'm rugged/badass
Ok this one is true. I drive an 85 Monte Carlo and drink budweiser.
But do you get the point. I kind of feel like most people's self images of themselves is incorrect anyway. That could be a good thing though.
Anyway, If you really cared to know 25 things about me, you would ask me. Or if I wanted you know 25 things about me you wouldn't have to ask me, but I also wouldn't tell you through an internet networking service.
Walk the walk don't talk the talk.
Somebody told me today (and it's not the first time this person has said it to me) that "the best things in life are free"... I told him back that isn't true, they just don't cost money. I think I ruined his day.

The Wrong Voice
I was having a conversation with my old room mate a couple weeks back. Usually when that happens we both end up dumber than when we started, but this one I think actually carried some weight. Not sure how it started...mighta been with the new Kanye album...but it doesn't matter. Either way what it came down to was our taste in music. What we look for when we determine what is good music. Something that everyone usually has an opinion about.
Pat (my room mate) and I both agreed that we liked Kanye's new album...just not for the same reasons. See Pat is of the opinion that a song's lyrics are what ultimately make a song good or bad. Whereas I feel that it's more about the actual sound.
I'm not saying lyrics don't matter at all, and I'm sure he's not saying that sound doesn't matter at all, but it seemed to me we both judge music on a two tier model. With me looking at sound first and what an artist is saying second, with Pat being vice versa.
There isn't really a right or wrong answer, but for me I just really have a problem with artists broadcasting their opinions to the masses. As sad as it is, a great deal of our population lacks the ability to think for themselves. So how do people get their opinions? From the voice of God, a.k.a. mass media. Just simply being told what to believe. There are theories upon theories out there with much evidence that back this up.
Now if you think about that and then look at many of the top of the chart hits out there. I'd being willing to bet many of the people singing or rapping an opinion about war or poverty or other issues lack the education to give a powerpoint presentation on the subject let alone be broadcasting an uneducated opinion to millions upon millions of other uneducated people.
Now I know this country is built on such ethical beliefs as freedom of speech...and I love that. I love that we all have the ability to be heard. I just wish there was some way we could make sure we're hearing something that deserves to be heard.
Music should be listened to for what it is...sounds. If you want words and to be told what to believe, do me a favor and listen to someone who has a background and read a book.

New Year (New Dubb?)
Happy New Year Ryan Pina! I'm pretty sure you are the only one who still regularly checks to see if I still do this. I hope it was a blast.
This year was a little different for me. Instead of ballin out in a tuxedo with some sorta crazy pizzazz sippin on some bubbly, I was wearing my Celery Green Wawa Manager's shirt sippin on some Decaf.
Well actually not really, I mean I was in my Wawa shirt, but I wasn't drinking anything when the ball dropped. I was actually driving home from work on the 76 expressway. Not too exciting, although I could see the fireworks over the river whenever I took my eyes off the road for a second. Either way it really wasn't exactly what I had in mind to ring 2009.
But maybe that's a good thing. I've been wanting to make some changes in my life. Get Dubb on the right track...so maybe a change in my celebration is the right start. Whatever...I don't know. I just hope everyone else enjoyed their New Years. Welcome to 200Fine.
PS - 9 is my favorite number.

Faces In The Crowd
Another week in the books. Sort of a fun filled week for me. Can't say the same for the auto industry or OJ Simpson. Man talk about crash and burn, what a bad time to be one of them, but it's like they say what goes up must come down I guess. I'll say a little prayer for the my mans in Motown, I like cars...but who gives a shit about OJ, he shoulda been in jail years ago.
Anywho, some cool things happened to me this week. I sold coffee to channel 29 weatherman John Bolaris, was threatened multiple times by a customer over a salad, and even got paid. But I think the coolest thing that happened to me this week came on Thursday at around 6:15 AM. It was a normal cold December morning when I arrived at the train station to wait for my train into the city. Had my headphones on listening to the new Kanye joint, which isn't too bad by the way, as I walked past all the other working drones toward the pole that I always lean on as I wait. Only this time as I'm about to set my bag on the ground and transfer my weight to the post, somebody tapped me on my shoulder. Startled I turned around to see the guy who everyday stands behind me to my left with his briefcase in front of him. Short in stature with a very grizzly beard, I walked by him each morning not thinking twice about it, only to turn around and realize it's Mr. Knowles.
Mr. Knowles was my basketball coach from about 4th grade to 10th grade. It's been about six years since I last saw him. Awesome guy. And the more I think about it, I owe him alot for how I turned out. I may have only seen him like 2-3 times a week growing up, but those times really counted. Basketball was a huge part of my life. You know I look around and see some friends from my childhood in some bad situations right now. And while I don't want to say I'm better than them, cuz I'm not, I just feel blessed to have had people like Mr. Knowles in my life. Someone who was willing to volunteer hours upon hours of his own time to give kids like me something to focus on other than getting into trouble.
But to get to the point, I just thought it was awesome that he somehow turned back up in my life. We got to talking, and if you could just see the thrill in his eyes when I told him I'm a college graduate...it really made me happy to realize that he cared. Plus now I got someone to talk to on the way to work.

On The Job
It's been a week since I started work at Wawa. They are showing me alot of stuff. Nothing really all that difficult so far, but the first week is just showing me the basics I guess, like working the register, making sandwichs all that kind of stuff. Mmmm the other day I made this banging chicken parm sandwich. Provolone cheese, bacon, a huge piece of chicken...sooo good.
The people who work there all seem pretty cool. Very nice and always willings to help. But I think the thing I like the most is meeting all the different kinds of people. The customers love to talk to you, and you see most of them everyday. I was really pleasantly surprised. I even spent my Thanksgiving after work with one of the homeless guys who comes in everyday. Really cool dude named Matt.
All in all I like it so far, it's sorta like what I did when I worked at CVS, cept I'm gettin paid alot more. I think I'm gonna chill here for a little and see where it takes me. Until next time

Bye Bye Unemployment Club
It's freezing outside...actually it's freezing inside. I don't like the cold. Prevents me from doing most things I like doing. For instance I can no longer practice my "Eagle Claw" on the beach and pretend I'm Daniel Larusso...or I can no longer practice my yoga in the park...or I can no longer play freedom with all my friends from the neighborhood.
Alright that's enough. I was kidding about all that stuff. Well not the "Eagle Claw," you can ask my friends about that. But the cold does suck a blow pop. Any day under 44 degrees and I'll be playing Madden drinking a Bud somewhere.
So today is my last day of freedom. My official resignation as a member of the Unemployment Club goes into effect tomorrow morning at 8:30 am when I walk through the doors of a Wawa, not as a customer, but as a Customer Service Manager. Starting tomorrow I will begin an absolutely rigorous 6 week training program where I will eat, sleep, and breath "Wawa Happy" until I'm all Wawizzled out. Actually probably more or less just the eat part.
Nah it shouldn't be too difficult. I'll manage (get it? I'll "manage" haha). Sorry I just woke up.
I'm going to miss the unemployment club. Summer unemployment was the best. The weather is nice, we could wake up and do whatever we wanted. Occassionally we would go for a jog, or play some basketball. There was the one day I dressed up in complete catchers attire just so Joe could pitch to me in his backyard. We'd put together furniture, went swimming, drank beers. But the best was when we would develop plans to make some income. One idea was to turn Joe's house into a Sonic, or be movie extras...the sperm bank was brought up kind of often.
When winter unemployment hit things kind of slowed down. No more sun, pool, or basketball. No more shorts and babes in bikinis. But alot more movies and TV. Recently we started watching the Nip/Tuck series. We're only about 8 episodes into season one, but it's already getting crazy. Wonder how often I'll get to watch it now...
So how am I spending my last day? In celebration. Not for me though...no I don't view leaving the club as a time to celebrate, it's actually probably the opposite...but I got places to go. Today is a celebration for Mike. He turns 22 today. Nothing says Happy Birthday better than a Pizza Party! Happy Birthday Mike!
