Happy New Year Ryan Pina! I'm pretty sure you are the only one who still regularly checks to see if I still do this. I hope it was a blast.
This year was a little different for me. Instead of ballin out in a tuxedo with some sorta crazy pizzazz sippin on some bubbly, I was wearing my Celery Green Wawa Manager's shirt sippin on some Decaf.
Well actually not really, I mean I was in my Wawa shirt, but I wasn't drinking anything when the ball dropped. I was actually driving home from work on the 76 expressway. Not too exciting, although I could see the fireworks over the river whenever I took my eyes off the road for a second. Either way it really wasn't exactly what I had in mind to ring 2009.
But maybe that's a good thing. I've been wanting to make some changes in my life. Get Dubb on the right track...so maybe a change in my celebration is the right start. Whatever...I don't know. I just hope everyone else enjoyed their New Years. Welcome to 200Fine.
PS - 9 is my favorite number.

Faces In The Crowd
Another week in the books. Sort of a fun filled week for me. Can't say the same for the auto industry or OJ Simpson. Man talk about crash and burn, what a bad time to be one of them, but it's like they say what goes up must come down I guess. I'll say a little prayer for the my mans in Motown, I like cars...but who gives a shit about OJ, he shoulda been in jail years ago.
Anywho, some cool things happened to me this week. I sold coffee to channel 29 weatherman John Bolaris, was threatened multiple times by a customer over a salad, and even got paid. But I think the coolest thing that happened to me this week came on Thursday at around 6:15 AM. It was a normal cold December morning when I arrived at the train station to wait for my train into the city. Had my headphones on listening to the new Kanye joint, which isn't too bad by the way, as I walked past all the other working drones toward the pole that I always lean on as I wait. Only this time as I'm about to set my bag on the ground and transfer my weight to the post, somebody tapped me on my shoulder. Startled I turned around to see the guy who everyday stands behind me to my left with his briefcase in front of him. Short in stature with a very grizzly beard, I walked by him each morning not thinking twice about it, only to turn around and realize it's Mr. Knowles.
Mr. Knowles was my basketball coach from about 4th grade to 10th grade. It's been about six years since I last saw him. Awesome guy. And the more I think about it, I owe him alot for how I turned out. I may have only seen him like 2-3 times a week growing up, but those times really counted. Basketball was a huge part of my life. You know I look around and see some friends from my childhood in some bad situations right now. And while I don't want to say I'm better than them, cuz I'm not, I just feel blessed to have had people like Mr. Knowles in my life. Someone who was willing to volunteer hours upon hours of his own time to give kids like me something to focus on other than getting into trouble.
But to get to the point, I just thought it was awesome that he somehow turned back up in my life. We got to talking, and if you could just see the thrill in his eyes when I told him I'm a college graduate...it really made me happy to realize that he cared. Plus now I got someone to talk to on the way to work.

On The Job
It's been a week since I started work at Wawa. They are showing me alot of stuff. Nothing really all that difficult so far, but the first week is just showing me the basics I guess, like working the register, making sandwichs all that kind of stuff. Mmmm the other day I made this banging chicken parm sandwich. Provolone cheese, bacon, a huge piece of chicken...sooo good.
The people who work there all seem pretty cool. Very nice and always willings to help. But I think the thing I like the most is meeting all the different kinds of people. The customers love to talk to you, and you see most of them everyday. I was really pleasantly surprised. I even spent my Thanksgiving after work with one of the homeless guys who comes in everyday. Really cool dude named Matt.
All in all I like it so far, it's sorta like what I did when I worked at CVS, cept I'm gettin paid alot more. I think I'm gonna chill here for a little and see where it takes me. Until next time

Bye Bye Unemployment Club
It's freezing outside...actually it's freezing inside. I don't like the cold. Prevents me from doing most things I like doing. For instance I can no longer practice my "Eagle Claw" on the beach and pretend I'm Daniel Larusso...or I can no longer practice my yoga in the park...or I can no longer play freedom with all my friends from the neighborhood.
Alright that's enough. I was kidding about all that stuff. Well not the "Eagle Claw," you can ask my friends about that. But the cold does suck a blow pop. Any day under 44 degrees and I'll be playing Madden drinking a Bud somewhere.
So today is my last day of freedom. My official resignation as a member of the Unemployment Club goes into effect tomorrow morning at 8:30 am when I walk through the doors of a Wawa, not as a customer, but as a Customer Service Manager. Starting tomorrow I will begin an absolutely rigorous 6 week training program where I will eat, sleep, and breath "Wawa Happy" until I'm all Wawizzled out. Actually probably more or less just the eat part.
Nah it shouldn't be too difficult. I'll manage (get it? I'll "manage" haha). Sorry I just woke up.
I'm going to miss the unemployment club. Summer unemployment was the best. The weather is nice, we could wake up and do whatever we wanted. Occassionally we would go for a jog, or play some basketball. There was the one day I dressed up in complete catchers attire just so Joe could pitch to me in his backyard. We'd put together furniture, went swimming, drank beers. But the best was when we would develop plans to make some income. One idea was to turn Joe's house into a Sonic, or be movie extras...the sperm bank was brought up kind of often.
When winter unemployment hit things kind of slowed down. No more sun, pool, or basketball. No more shorts and babes in bikinis. But alot more movies and TV. Recently we started watching the Nip/Tuck series. We're only about 8 episodes into season one, but it's already getting crazy. Wonder how often I'll get to watch it now...
So how am I spending my last day? In celebration. Not for me though...no I don't view leaving the club as a time to celebrate, it's actually probably the opposite...but I got places to go. Today is a celebration for Mike. He turns 22 today. Nothing says Happy Birthday better than a Pizza Party! Happy Birthday Mike!

The Morning of the 16th
It's sort of late but I'm not real tired, so I'm going to kill some time on here and write about my morning of November 16th, 2008. Maybe I'll try to write it in like a short story format.
There was a knock at the door. Ignoring it I rolled over and covered my head with a pillow. Then Shauna came into the living room from the kitchen.
"Morning Dubb."
I grumbled something in return, but mostly just wanted to be left alone.
"Hey you!" I heard Shauna say as she opened the front door to the apartment. A cool breeze rushed over me so I pulled the blanket tighter around my body.
"How are you?"
Shauna's voice got a little more faint as she stepped outside for a second. I blinked my eyes a few times to gather myself. Must be time to get up. Reaching for my phone, the clock read 12:13 pm...definately time to get up.
Paul and I had been up late the previous night just hangin' out playing video games and watching Mario Lopez on "Extra" talk about Madonna and A Rod. And by late I mean close to 5 am, so I guess sleeping till noon isn't all that bad. Whatever. Shauna walked back in.
"This is my friend Dubb, him and Paul were up late drinkin last night so he slept over." At this point I'm sitting up on the couch that was doubling as my bed..."And Dubb, this is Kim."
"Hi Kim!" I muttered trying to sound as enthusiastic as possible.
"Hey Doug, nice to meet you."
I didn't even bother to correct her, everyone does it. Plus I hadn't put my contacts in yet so I really had no idea what she looked like...although, through the blurryness I'm pretty sure I could make out some adidas sweatpants. So I figured if I couldn't even see her, does it really matter what she calls me? Maybe I'll meet her under better circumstances down the line sometime.
Anyway, from what I gathered using my other four senses, Kim was bringing in a new microwave and microwave table for the crib. I wish I could have been more help, but before I knew it Kim had everything in the door and the only thing I could do was move Sir Hawthorne, Paul and Shauna's fake pet dog, out of the way. Didn't need my eyes to do that, knew where he was from memory.
Ten minutes later, after putting out the morning fire and poppin in a fresh pair of contacts, I was ready to roll. I walked into the kitchen but sadly Kim had already peaced and my services were no longer needed.
"Cook me breakfast Paul!"
"Fuck you Dubb, cook me breakfast!" Paul was adjusting himself as he walked out his bedroom door which was connected to the average size kitchen.
"You got any bread? I'll make some gashouse eggs. I'm real good at it now, even started adding things...like cheese." My mouth was already salivating as I said it.
"Nah we ain't got no bread, we got bacon though."
Paul was trying to get me. He knows how much I love bacon. And it did make me stop and think for a second, but it wasn't going to work.
"You cook the bacon."
He looked at me, then walked over and opened the refridgerator door.
"Shauna! Cook me and Dubb breakfast!"
So anyway that was my morning. The bickering about who should cook breakfast went on for a little while longer until the three of us just decided to order breakfast from around the corner. We watched a little football then I had to go home. But I'm tired now so I'm gonna go to bed. Maybe I'll finish the rest of the day tomorrow. Good night.

Dubbcula!
I just finished watching Underworld. And I've decided that being a vampire is where it's at. After thinking for about 5 minutes on it, I can't really find a downside. People may think I'm weird and try to stay away from me, but I'm pretty sure I already have that affect sooooo....
You get to live forever, look viscious as shit, and your pretty much like Daft Punk and Kanye say "harder, better, faster, stronger." Plus would it really be that much of an adjustment? The whole no sun thing might suck, but I'd get to sleep longer. And it's not like blood tastes all that bad, and I'm sure we could get creative with the mixed drinks. Plus there is something sexy as shit about the female ones. Kate Beckinsale could eat my neck any day of the week.
My life has been getting kind of boring. So I guess the only thing for me to do is dye my hair black, change my eye color to like red or something, grow some fangs, find a sweet black leather outfit, and then sit in the dark for six months so my skin turns pale. I could play the part.

Not Much To Say...but Happy Birthday!
I've been kind of lame lately I know. Only posted like two entries in all of October, but whatever, my attention was elsewhere (I do have a pretty long entry in the works about the parade though). Truth is, I don't really have much to say. Nothing has really been going on in my life since the Phillies. It's kind of sad really. Sometimes I'd sit here and look around the internet for news stories or some crazy happening to write about, but I usually just end up on cnn.com looking at headlines like todays "DHL Cuts 9500 Jobs" or "Circuit City Files For Bankruptcy" and get depressed. Now where am I going to get my new Universal Remote?
But upon checking Facebook this morning I was reminded that today is one of my very good friend's birthday. Mr. Eric Requa. Happy Birthday my man. This is for all the good times we had. Like the time we made Vu wear his heelys to Physics lab, or the time we moved an entire common room into the stairway, or the time we took a toaster oven...got caught, but still got away with it, or the time we rearranged a jewelers sign to say "we buy dogs and God," or the countless times we stole the golf cart, or all the times we stacked recycling bins and coffee tables in front of each others doors, all the way till a couple weeks ago when you called me while I was drunk and told me you were on cash cab...only you weren't. Happy Birthday my boy...wish I could celebrate with you.

Top 10 Things I Want To See During the Phillies-Rays Series
10) Eva Longoria replacing Evan Longoria at 3rd base for the Rays...I honestly think this will ultimately benefit everyone.
9) Myself getting employed...this was placed lower in the last series, and I did flirt with employment for a little while, before I was once again royally screwed by the job market...but as we get to the end of the post season this really does take more and more of a back seat to me.
8) A cartoon of Jose Conseco getting hit with soap rapped in a towel by a member of every major league organization, like he was Private Pile...seriously this guy is just annoying.
7) The entire 93' Phillies team sitting together in the section right behind home plate at the bank.
6) Shane Victorino robbing BJ Upton of a home run.
5) Pat Burrell...I think everyone knows why this is here.
4) Harry Kalas spit in Joe Buck's drink then say something like "Move over kid," and start announcing.
3) Ryan Howard hit a friggin home run.
2) A suicide squeeze to win the series with Pat Burrell on third...
1) A parade down broad!!!!!

Top 10 Things I Want To See During the Phillies-Dodgers Series
Here we go...
10) Not Manny Ramirez
9) Myself at Juno's for a game...just like old times.
8) Brett Myers running batting practice.
7) Myself getting employed...not necessarily within the realm of baseball, but I need a job.
6) The Phils win the first game in order to celebrate Yom Kippur!
5) Pat Burrell...again nothing to do with anything, but stuff is just better when he's there.
4) The Krukker throwing out a first pitch.
3) Jimmy Rollins lead off every game with a homerun
2) Chase and Fat Boy grow a pair!

Top 10 Things I Want To See During the Phillies-Brewers Series
10) Harry Kalas in Mcfaddens before, during (innings 4-6), and after the games. I know he's drinking somewhere before the game, mind as well make it with the fans.
9) Kyle Kendrick and Adam Eaton in street clothes playing war on the bench. Maybe they could be in a couple skits with the Phanatic or something. I'm sure they can help the team in some way.
8) The dirty guys selling nitrous balloons to tailgaters in handcuffs. There is no need to be getting all hopped up on nitrous when you could enjoy a cold Bud.
7) Jimmy Rollins letting his playing do the talking. He's just cooler that way.
6) Charlie Manual and Andy Reid having lunch together at the Rib Rack. This has nothing to do with anything, but is still something I would like to witness.
5) Pat Burrell. I just want to see him.
4) C.C. Sabathia being replaced in the second inning. He has to be getting tired.
3) The Phanatic swinging a baseball bat at the Bratwurst during the Brewers seventh inning wiener race or whatever it is.
2) Citizens Bank Park being dubbed "The Philly Phallout Shelter" because of all the bombs we're going to be hitting out of the park (I came up with that myself).
1) A Phillies sweep!

Angels In My Outfield?
11:11
I've realized that I have become increasingly spiritual during my pro-longed unemployment as a college graduate. Take for example the entry I wrote a couple weeks back about horoscopes...it has now become a morning ritual for me to check my horoscope, and sometimes I even look at my friend's (I have alot of time on my hands). I even find myself reading a decent amount of fantasy novels (Currently on the third book of Eragon saga, awesome!).
Annnyywaayyy, on to what this entry is actually about. It all started about a month and half, maybe two months ago. Ya know, how every once and while you will look at a clock and have a bit of deja vu like "man, thats weird I was looking at clock at this same time yesterday." And that's about as much thought as you give it right? Well, that's what I figured when I started noticing that I happen to glance at a clock at 11:11 quite often. But recently "quite often" has become "too often." For the past month or so, everyday (and I'm not exagerating, I mean EVERYDAY), I have found myself peering at some type of measure of time at exactly 11:11...and I'm not just talking 11:11 AM or 11:11 PM, I'm talking both! Without fail!
So I mentioned the phenomenon to a few of my friends. Most of them thought I was lying, but one did say maybe I should google it. So the next morning, which was actually yesterday, when I woke up and looked at my cell phone for the time and it was indeed 11:11, I decided enough was enough. I went right to my computer and typed in 11:11 meaning. To my delight over 188 million hits came up.
I'm not crazy! Or maybe I am, and there's just alot of other crazy people too. But either way, I got to reading a little bit and apparently it's my guardian angel trying to talk to me. Or more than one angel. I'm still not 100% sure, but I'm going to try to educate myself alittle more.
Shit, maybe it's about time I forego the whole money thing, looks like spirituality is calling to me...literally. Maybe I'll move to the mountains somewhere and start looking for nirvana. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" always has been a favorite of mine. Crazy!

Crazy!

I'm Bored!
I'm 22 years old, and if Brett Favre isn't ready to retire...I don't think I'm ready either. It's saturday afternoon, sunny, and probably about 72 degrees outside. And I'm sitting on my couch watching college football. Don't get me wrong I love watching college football, but I think right now I would rather be out on a court somewhere playing some roundball. Only problem is I can't find anyone who has the same desire.
I thought once I graduated college I'd be ready to hang up my sneaks. Maybe just make a hobby out of it, play every once in a while on a day like today and be happy. Only I'm not. Put me in coach! I need more PT. I need competition.
Funny, I thought I was ready to retire from sports when I graduated high school too. Only to realize I wasn't ready then either. But I had more options at that time still being in college and all. I just joined the track team. Now I got nothing.
This summer was the first summer I wasn't involved in any type of basketball league. Last year our team won the Fox Chase summer mens league, only to see the league fold before we could defend our title.
I guess to make a long story short (plus I'm getting hungry), this is more of a plea. If anyone reading this knows of any leagues or any teams that a 22 year old, twice retired, one time college athlete may be able to help. Please let me know. I like volleyball too.

Cat Cam
So today my boy Joe and I were hanging out like we do everyday. It's kind of weird...out of our group of friends we're the only two with college degrees, yet we're the only two currently unemployed. Guess the joke's on us. Oh well. But anyway back on subject...today we were hanging out, did a little shopping, watched some TV, nothing all that exciting.
At one point though, we found ourselves sitting out front of his house sipping on some good ol' Slush Puppies and just shootin the shit, when out of the bushes lept Cat (Cat is the name of Joe's cat). Cat is kind of an interesting character. I'm not sure if it is a guy or a girl...actually I could care less. But either way it usually spends the day out and about in the neighborhood maybe chasing mice, sleeping on cars, or I even saw it on the roof of a house once. Cat came over to me (obviously interested in my Slush Puppy which I had no interest in sharing with a cat) and started rubbin all up on my leg. I instantly noticed how dirty it was so I shoo'd it away. But as I was cleaning off my leg it got me wondering...just where exactly had this cat been? So I turned to Joe:
Me: "Yo, did you ever wonder what your cat does during the day?"
Joe: "Yea kinda."
Me: "Did you ever think about strapping a camera to it?"
Joe: "No not really."
Me: "You wanna strap a camera on Cat?"
Joe: "Sure but where do we get a camera to put on a cat?"
Me: "Not sure...maybe the spy store. There's one near my house."
Joe: "I'll tell you what. You do all the work and I'll let you use my cat."
Right at that point Joe's little fourth grade neighbor came running off the school bus, tripped and fell flat on his face which instantly ended all CatCam talk while we laughed.
I however, did not forget. Once I got home I decided to do some research. And to my delight, my first google search turned up this gem of a site: CatCam
A German named Mr. Lee...I was confused too. But whatever he's cool in my book. Explore the site and check out some of the pictures he's gotten off his little furball. Pretty cool.

He is back!
Freddie is reincarnated, albeit with much greater ability. Anybody who watched the Eagles - Cowboys last night saw it. I received about 12 text messages immediately following what he called a "learning experience."
Check it out: What an idiot
And thanks to "Butthead" for finding this link of him in high school.

Boys VS Girls
Last night I got in an argument with a buddy of mine. Something that actually happens quite often as I think about it. Which is probably pretty funny to witness since we're both very dumb...but anyway last night we were talking a little roundball when somehow the WNBA came up. Not sure how...we both had a few drinks in us, talking sports...probably had something to do with which ones we thought were hot. But again anyway, to get to the actual argument, what it came down to was kinda simple. Who is better: A WNBA player of star quality or an NCAA Division 3 male player of average quality.
I said the WNBA player. I've played with some females that were pretty damn good (I mean I didn't play basketball in college, but I've been on some teams in my day), and these girls were nowhere near seeing interest in the WNBA. Which can only lead one to believe that the level of play in the WNBA must be a great deal better than what these girls were playing at. Which again leads me to believe, would be a level somewhat higher than that of a Division 3 male basketball player.
My friend argues, and actually he is the second friend who I have argued over this with in my day. The first being a buddy at school who I will refer to as "Butthead" (Because I know he loves shout outs...but this is my blog and I reserve the right to call you what I want). Both of these gentleman argue that it would be no contest. Males are simply stronger, faster, and more athletic. A female wouldn't be able to stop a male down in the post or off the dribble. They did however concede that some females may posess a greater shooting ability.
So this is where I leave it up to you blog readers. If you are out there, and have any kind of opinion on this...please post a comment in the comment section of this post and let me know how you feel. Oh and we also argued over who would win in a game: The WNBA champions or the Mens NCAA Division 3 National champions. So if you have a comment about that as well, feel free. To post a comment just scroll to the bottom of this post and look for a little link with a pencil next to it that says "comments."
Alls I know is I'm pretty sure Diana Taurasi would kick my ass on the court. Oh and by the way, "Butthead" actually was a Division 3 player...of average ability.

That's mine for today. I just started reading them like last week. Probably because I still don't really have much else to do during the day. The first one I read actually was kind of on point...that may be why I continue reading them...although none of them have made much sense to me since. I can't even remember what the first one was.
Not too sure how this one is going to apply to my day. Can't really think of anyone I would want to change off the top of my head... but here's lookin at you America. Time for a change and I'm about to lay down the law! Ha how stupid is that. Oh well. Let me know how yours work out. I just read them off facebook.

I just read that participation in high school sports is at an all time high! Thats great! Cuz just the other day I was telling my mom how depressing it was that I don't see any of the young kids from our neighborhood playing any pick up sports anymore. At least they're doing it somewhere else.

"We don't get paid til' the lines get laid"
My mom is the secretary for the Greater Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, and today is their annual golf outing. Last night she asked if I would mind waking up early to help her set up. Of course I told her it wouldn't be a problem...not realizing she would walk into my room at 7 AM to drag me over to the Frankford-Torresdale country club. Now anyone who knows me, knows I'm probably the farthest thing from a morning person. Plus I hate coffee...although I do like donuts.
But, if there were a time that I didn't mind waking up early, it was over the past four years when I got to spend time with my boys in the chain gang.
You ever, heard the saying "two wrongs don't make a right?" Well, in our case maybe it's more like "Any more than two wrongs definately make it right." There was not a single person in our chain gang that could be defined as anything close to a morning person (well maybe Luis). Yet, there we were every Saturday at dawn, doing our thing on Patterson Field at Ursinus College. Most of the time we would have to do wake up calls, or occasionally do a pickup at somebodies room (We would wake said person up, throw them on the back of the tractor, only to have to wake them up again when we got to the field) to get the whole squad together. I don't think a single organization on campus would be able to out-drink the chain gang on a Friday night. But we would be there...rain or shine, bright and early. And we would create. We would create week after week what would go on to be described as the "prettiest field in the Centennial Conference."
We would have the occasional screw up or the occasional trip to the emergency room...after all we're only human. But you know what? Nobody ever got mad, nobody ever got angry. Instead we laughed...had fun. We all knew everybody would rather be sleeping, so why not make it worth our while. Make a story out of it, ya know? Like the one time I painted 40 yard marker on the 35 yard line...or the time Ryan did a back flip out the trailor when he got hit with the mats because Z and Deuce pushed a little to hard...or the time Robbie stomped the shit out of a mouse cuz he thought that was normal.
But with all that in mind. I think the best part about it, was knowing how proud we all were of what we created. And how proud the Bears football team was to play on it. Even if it was only there for a couple hours before we had to do it all over again.
Getting up early today, and smelling the fresh cut grass on the golf course, wasn't really the same. But it did give me a little window back to what we were the last four years. You can call me corny or whatever...but shit I had fun, and we got paid to do it.
"Yo Schem! Run up the bleachers...is the U in the middle of the field straight?"
"Nah...it's a little off to the left."
"Ah fuck it, nobody will notice after the first quarter anyway."

Just a heads up
The Second Coming?
Now I'm no Eagles fan...well actually it's not that I dislike the Eagles. It's just that I'm a much larger Colts fan. Although, my friends propensity (I had to look up how to spell that on http://www.dictionary.com/, and the example sentence was "a propensity to drink too much." Just thought that was funny.) to voice their collective disdain over my football loyalty laying somewhere other than the silver, black, and green...has, at times, caused me to root against the Eagles. But solely to put my friends back in their place. I do in fact like to see the Birds succeed.
But anyway, the reason I'm writing this right now, is because I just read a line by rookie Eagles receiver Desean Jackson. It's pretty funny. In an article on http://www.philly.com/ by John Gonzalez, Mr. Gonzalez is pretty much poking fun at little Desean for failing in his attempt to act as nothing more than an innocent, humble athlete...and Jackson is quoted "Oh, yeah. When I'm out, people are noticing me, telling me how great I am, how happy they are that I'm an Eagle." Pause. "I just want to stay humble. I'm a humble guy."
...?
Instantly I started smiling. Popping right into my head was the greatest receiver without a doubt, in his own mind, to pull on a Philly jersey.
Freddie Mitchell.
The first thing I thought of was that press conference right after "First Down Freddie" made his miracle catch during a 4th and 26 in the NFC Championship game. While wearing a cowboy hat, a plaid shirt, and a bow tie that even Glenn "Hurricane" Schwartz would look stupid in, he rolled up to the mic and, I believe he said something to effect of "I'm a special player. I just want to thank my hands for being so great." That day, without a pause or even anything close to a second thought, I ran right to my desktop, and under the "People I would like to meet" catergory on my Myspace page, I listed in all capitals: FREDDIE MITCHELL.

Unfortunately Freddie, as it turned out, was too good for the game of football. Too good that, in fact, no NFL team felt they were worthy to have him. Last I heard he was a substitute high school teacher somewhere. Or maybe not?
But now it appears we may have the second coming in Desean Jackson. The similarities are uncanny. Both are small, speedy receivers who double as return men. Both came out of college early. Both played their college ball in California. And best of all, both were drafted by the Eagles.
So here's hoping Desean's quote is only a glimpse of what's to come. Because Freddie...I miss you. And Dr. E...thanks for reading, I miss you too.

Free Food
This morning I just figured I'd do a little free advertising (to the three people that read this) for two of my favorite websites. I'm sure I already told some (probably all three of you) about www.woot.com and www.passwird.com. Both sites offer some great deals on all kinds of different stuff. I mean yesterday I received 3 free chikin strips from Chick-Fil-A just for wearing my Peyton Manning jersey, how lucky is that? Well actually I guess luck didn't really have anything to do with it since it was it www.passwird.com that told me to do it. But whatever.
Woot.com even has an affiliated web site devoted to just wine deals for all you con-a-sores (I have no idea how to spell it, so I just wrote it phonetically) out there.
So check em out...don't check em out. It's up to you. Just figured I'd give a little back to the giver for getting me lunch yesterday.
I may be back later. Until then...

Can Adam Eaton Please Just Leave?
Ya know, I was happy with the Phillies starting rotation for a while. Actually our pitching staff as a whole. I was a little upset about how much we gave up to get Joe Blanton (I really liked what I was hearing about Cardenas), but once I saw how Big Joe wore his socks it relieved some of my pain. Not to metion his starts have, for the most part, been pretty solid so far.
The big thing however, was that I hadn't even heard Adam Eaton's name in months. Didn't even remember he was in our organization...and it was great. It was like he disappeared, and nobody even cared or noticed.
Until today...when Pat Gillick apparently decided to come through on his word and did Phillies fans dirty. I woke up and checked the sports page on Philly.com only to find out that Adam Eaton was back in the bigs. Why?!...Why?! Why?! Why?! Because you promised him. Why the hell did you promise him in the first place. This is a professional sport. You get paid millions of dollars to play baseball...if you are good enough. ADAM EATON IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH! Shit! He didn't even win ONE game in the minor leagues. Cut him. Put him on waivers, blind fold him and drop him off in Egypt or something. Or if you promised to bring him back to the big leagues make him an accountant or something. Just don't put him on the mound. Please! He's just wasting a roster spot.
Carlos Carrasco anyone????

What Did New Orleans Ever Do?
Another hurricane? Are you serious. I just heard that the Mayor down there ordered a mandatory evacuation. "Gustav" is heading in that direction and seems to be pretty angry. Throwing things around at 120 mph. It's only been a little over a year since Katrina, and now they got this asshole bearing down on them. That's pretty messed up.
I just looked up what the name "Gustav" means: "staff of God." WTF. What is God's deal? Put your staff away, let these people regroup. Where is Noah when you need him ya know? Or even Steve Carell, what was that movie called where he built the ark?
Good luck New Orleans, and whoever else happens to fall in the way of this jerk off. I'll be thinking of you.

Five year plan...Pshhh
"Where do you see yourself in five years?" A job interviewer's favorite question and an interviewee's worst nightmare. Well at least this interviewee. Who really has a five year plan? Who really has a one year plan, ya know? If there is only one thing in this world that I know for sure, it's that lifes favorite pitch to throw is the old number two. You'd think that at least once in a while it would throw you the straight heat. "The high, stinky cheese," as Henry Rowengardner once called it. But nope, it is with out fail life will continue firing curveball after curveball after curverball at you. And most of the time it won't even be in the strike zone. It will just let you stand there, eager and waiting for something straight. But it won't come. Not never.
Anyway, I was asked that question today in an interview I had at a local television station. I mean I knew it was coming, I had prepared for it last night. Thought out an awesome answer, something they would want to hear, eat it right up. But then when I got to the actual interview, and the question arose, like a snake out of a basket, it got me thinking. So in the spirit of my idiocy, I decided I'm going to share with you how I would have answered the question in years past, and then end with what I came up with today. Here goes:
6th Grade:
Parents - "Where do you see yourself in five years"
Me - "Who cares?"
8th Grade:
Dad - "Where do you you see yourself in five years?"
Me - "Hopefully in some chicks bed."
10th Grade:
Coach - "Where do you see yourself in five years?"
Me - "Starting two guard for the North Carolina Tar Heels, contemplating leaving early for the NBA."
12th Grade:
College Guidence Counselor - "Where do you see yourself in five years?"
Me - "Probably a recent grad of UTI working on cars in kensington or somewhere."
Sophomore in College:
Parents - "Where do you see yourself in five years?"
Me - "Who cares?"
Today:
News Producer - "Where do you see yourself in five years?"
Me - "I hate this question, but I'm going to level with you. In five years I see myself here, hopefully not where I started. Maybe in the sports department, maybe with your job...should you decide to leave of course. Hopefully I'll have my own house, maybe have a wife and a baby boy. But honestly, we both know thats not how it will be. So why even ask that question. I mean I have goals and all, and yes I would like to reach them...but life changes often. And your ability to get through it relies greatly on your ability to adapt. And like I said earlier that's one of my strong character traits."
I mean I thought it was a money answer. He seemed to like it. So here's hoping they employ me. Because none of my other plans ever worked out...

HiiiIIIIiiiiii
Hello internet, nice to meet you I guess. I'm Dubb...and this is my blog.
Not really sure where to start, I've never had a blog before. Well...I did have a xanga when I was younger, listened to emo, and thought people would like to hear about my feeeeeelings...but I won't count that. And I promise you this won't be like that. Instead, I'm going to try to use this as a spin off from my former Ursinus College Grizzly sports column of the same name, just with a broader spectrum of topics. Although most will probably still deal with sports because that is just how I am.
Anyway, I'm 6'1, part Japanese, and can dunk a basketball...on a good day. My real name will stay undisclosed in case of fans with extreme obsessions :) (although anyone reading this probably already knows it anyway), but if you have any other questions about me...just ask I guess. But I'm really not that interesting.
There's really nothing on my mind at the moment...I just woke up. But as soon as something pops up, I'll be back. Now I have to go mow the lawn.
One Love, Dubb
